The U. S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday approved the use of an anti-impotence drug to treat impotence in men.
The drug, which is already under review by the FDA, will be used to treat erectile dysfunction in men under 18.

The FDA had previously rejected the drug, saying it could cause a “serious adverse event” if taken improperly.
“The warning letter was based on a review of scientific evidence that suggests the drug may cause these effects,” Kelly said. “This review was conducted under a review of medical and scientific studies and was not a clinical trial.”
The FDA said that while it didn’t give a specific number of patients who took the drug, it does recommend the drug for use in those under 18 who had problems with erection.
“For many people, Viagra is the answer to a problem that isn’t there.”
Sexual dysfunction is common in men and is treatable with lifestyle changes and other treatments.

“We do not endorse Viagra for use in women. However, for men taking Viagra, we would recommend that they avoid the drug altogether,” Kelly said.
Kelly said the company didn’t want to speculate on a possible link between the drug and erectile dysfunction. However, the FDA’s own review of the scientific literature revealed a link, she said.
